“Authenticity will take you places people pleasing can’t.”
-The Millenial Therapist
About me
My name is Kadie and I am an integrative counsellor living in Frome, Somerset. I currently work online with adults (age 18yrs+).
My own experience of life and relationships was completely transformed by counselling, a path I came to after I became a mother in 2020. When I entered motherhood I experienced the unravelling of a well-worn, tightly wound pattern of people-pleasing, perfection-seeking and disregarding my own wants and needs. This was a turning point, but a difficult one since I experienced a great deal of stress and self-criticism. With personal experience of familial addiction, bereavement, depression, anxiety and trauma, my coming to therapy was slightly overdue (but never too late) and has been life-changing in every sense of the word.
While I firmly believe that no one is ever the finished product - that there is always room to learn and grow as a fallible human being moving through the world - I believe that deep, meaningful therapy can provide the unconditional love that heals beyond words. I now live my life listening to my own needs, having shed the parts of myself that I donned to be acceptable to others, and am able to navigate the ups and downs life throws that little bit more easily. The aforementioned unravelling was really the beginning of me waking up and living my own life, for me.
My Approach
I offer clients the experience of feeling deeply seen, heard and understood, often working through the past in order to reshape the present. My approach is predominantly person-centered, always holding you, the client, at the centre of the work. I believe that what we resist, persists, and that actually by embracing what is most difficult, painful, even unspeakable, we ultimately are able to let it go and make the change we desire in ourselves and in our lives. Working at the client’s pace, I offer an empathic, non-judgemental space where you can bring whatever it is you want to share. I will listen, sit alongside you and your story, but also gently challenge and highlight things you may be too close to notice, so that we can be curious about them together.
I am heavily influenced by attachment and psychodynamic theory, believing that the patterns, roles and ways of being we learn early on in life in order to adapt to our caregivers’ needs ultimately shapes the way we see the world and our place within it. Bringing subconscious material to light is always illuminating, and very often healing, and can lead us to be empowered and choose for ourselves, what goes and what stays. This is how we can begin to live more authentically and peacefully.
Meeting ourselves deeply is the only way to experience life in all its amazing, imperfect, ordinary beauty. Once we understand ourselves better, we can engage in the world and our relationships in a way that creates connection, meaning and joy, without abandoning who we truly are and what we want. This is the belief that my practice is built on.
